greetings!

I'm currently teaching English Language as Subject Head / English Language at Guangyang Secondary School! In a past life, I served as a Special Assistant at the Ministry of Education's Schools Division, where I worked on school operations policy, including overseeing the implementation of Full Subject-Based Banding. Before that, I started my career at Hwa Chong Institution (College), following my graduation from the Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) at the National Institute of Education (NIE), an autonomous institute within Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.

While I studied the English language & linguistics and biology at university (hop over to profile if you're curious what I did!), and trained to teach both, I've since had the chance to teach a range of subjects, including the General Paper and English Language and Linguistics.

I've had the chance to work with students in various out-of-the-classroom contexts: outdoor education (including overseas expeditions in rock climbing, kayaking, and cycling), fencing, and badminton. Student development is thus dear to my heart and something I really enjoy!

what's this for?

Portfolios are ostensibly created for the viewer as an audience. But beyond the viewer, portfolios also serve the creator as an audience: the creation process is innately reflective and contemplative. This site lays out my beliefs and motivations as an educator, and tracks my professional development and growth, both for the visitor and for myself. It also provides a more complete picture of me: both as a person, and as an educator.

Have a look at my professional Instagram account (@mister.lan) or drop me an email: I'm always happy to have a good chat over coffee! I'm especially interested in linguistics, biology, education, and thrilled when these fields intersect!
